Lively, emphatically and in a charming way, concert series Neue Musik Eckernfoerde is dedicated to the new and unknown in music and has been shaping the musical present in the far north for almost 20 years.
KNME was founded in 2002 by flutist Beatrix Wagner and composer Gerald Eckert and supported by the former Eckernfoerde cultural representative Sven Wlassack, as well as cantor of St. Nicolai’s Church Katja Kanowski and pastor Dirk Homrighausen. Since 2003 the mostly five concerts per year have taken place in the acoustically and atmospherically outstanding location of St. Nicolai’s Church in Eckernfoerde.
In mostly moderated concerts, the series presents its audience, which consists of connoisseurs, newcomers and young listeners, new, current and experimental music by young and established composers. It is a place for premieres, but in its programs it also combines new music with early music and the avant-garde with the tradition from which it springs. The great pleasure in experimenting and the enthusiasm for the intensive examination of the present is shown in concerts in which the audience can attend and experience the creation of the sounds, the application of new playing techniques or unknown instruments directly. The Ensemble in Residence "Reflexion K" ensures performances at the highest level and also invites, in addition to national and international musicians and composers, artists from other fields of art to its projects thus for combining and merging instrumental music with electronics, dance, performance or light installations.
Regular collaborations take place with the Schleswig-Holstein artists residence Eckernfoerde “Otte 1” and its scholarship holders, as well as with the Luebeck University of Music and the students there.
